Great July events in Salento

From Lecce to Leuca – events, festivals, holiday fun galore!

Summer is now full-on, with all its long nights of parties, music and entertainment, just like every year here. Salento has become one of the most popular holiday destinations in recent years, offering a huge variety of fun things to do that liven up the holidays of the local people of Puglia as well as those of tourists from all over the world. There are so many it would be hard to list them all.

This July opens with the SEI, the South East Independent, a major music and cultural festival, which takes place in various towns around Salento, between Corigliano d’Otranto and San Cataldo di Lecce. In these delightful locations there are concerts, book presentations, workshops with great international artists, among which the name of Souzanne Vega stands out.

For art lovers in the first week of July there’s also the International Arts Festival in Nardo and Copertino, that practically takes over these characteristic fortified medieval villages of Salento, featuring work by talented artists from all over the world.

Lovers of festivals and folk traditions are spoilt for choice: from the Santa Cristina Food Festival in Gallipoli from 23rd to 26th July, to the Scorrano Festival from 6th to 8th, to the Festival of the Lecce pasticciotto taking place in Surano on the 28th: everywhere you’ll find a riot of lights, stalls and lots of good food that has made us famous all over the world. There’s also the seventh ‘Birra and Friends’ beer festival in Vernole in mid-July with all the best beer on offer.

Concerts featuring national and international artists are virtually non-stop for the whole of August, a true joy for music lovers, all against the backdrop of Salento’s beautiful scenery. For all-out fun lovers, this is the best time of the year: discos on the beach, all-night parties, night-life galore.

July in Salento this year is going to be hot, hot, hot, thanks to all the fun night-life on offer.
